چکیده

In this paper, we present a roughness modulation technique that employs electrotactile augmentation to alter material texture perception, which is conducted through mechanically unconstrained touch. A novel electrotactile augmented reality system that superimposes modulating nerve activity onto afferent nerves at the middle phalanx of a finger is described. We conducted a user study in which participants were requested to rate the roughness of real materials that were explored using the system. The results indicated that participants could perceive themodulated fineand macro-roughness via the electrotactile augmentation.

Presentation of Various Tactile Sensations Using Micro-Needle Electrotactile Display

Tactile displays provoke tactile sensations by artificially stimulating tactile receptors. While many types of tactile displays have been developed, electrotactile displays that exploit electric stimulation can be designed to be thin, light, flexible and thus, wearable. However, the high voltages required to stimulate tactile receptors and limited varieties of possible sensations pose problems....

Electrocutaneous Stimulation of Skin Mechanoreceptors for Tactile Studies with Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging

IntroductIon In many simulation and exploration tasks such as exploring the real and virtual environment, tactile information is necessary to get surface information of objects. Moreover, in rehabilitation and sensory prostheses training, this kind of sensory information is indispensable (Yarimaga, Lee, Lee, & Ryu, 2005). Since the 1980s, electrotactile stimulation has been considered a possibl...

Characterisation of breast implant surfaces and correlation with fibroblast adhesion.

INTRODUCTION Capsular contracture formation is a common complication following breast augmentation surgery. Breast implant shells have either a smooth or a textured surface. Smooth surfaces demonstrate a higher incidence of contracture formation. The 3-dimensional surface of textured implants is thought to disrupt contractile forces and reduce capsular contracture rates. AIM To investigate th...

Vestibular rehabilitation with biofeedback in patients with central imbalance.

UNLABELLED Central Nervous System disorders may cause important functional unbalance in the maintenance of balance and posture. There is no effective rehabilitation for these symptoms until now. OBJECTIVE The aim of this paper is to evaluate the use of tongue electrotactile stimulation on patients with central imbalance using BrainPort. MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a prospective case serie...
